The division's competence is based on more than 225,000 MW of installed hydro capacity worldwide with turbines of all types. It  holds a leading position in Bulb-, Pelton- and reversible Pumpturbine units as well as in Bulb-, Motor-Generators and Balance of Plant (BoP).

With regard to penstocks and gates, ANDRITZ HYDRO is today the legal successor of the former companies VOEST-ALPINE, VA TECH VOEST MCE, SULZER ESCHER WYSS and HYDRO VEVEY. All the know how and experience gained in decades by these companies is now available from one single source. To date, our international record proudly lists some 770 hydropower plants worldwide equipped with penstocks and gates form Andritz VA TECH HYDRO. The former VOEST-ALPINE MCE holds a record of 428 power plants, whereas Sulzer Escher Wyss and Hydro Vevey contribute with 247 respectively 95 power plants.

As early as 1947, the production of penstocks and gates was launched in the workshops of the former VOEST-ALPINE AG in Linz / Austria. And even today the centre of competence of these products is still at this place. Permanent development work has always had top priority to secure the technological lead in this field. Many of ANDRITZ HYDRO’s references are still unique and represent world records. In the field of site fabrication of penstocks ANDRITZ HYDRO is world market leader.
