R&D is focused on helping customers produce higher efficiencies and yields while consuming less raw materials, natural resources, and energy. Two overriding trends drive our customers’ investments:
- Lowering the investment cost per ton of product.
- Making the production process more sustainable.
Andritz’s response to lowering investment costs can be found in the increased scale, reliability, and availability of its systems. Significant advances have been made in the modularization, construction techniques, and automation to shorten the time between installation and revenue generation of the from the installed equipment.
Andritz’s response to sustainability is the development of new systems for the efficient processing of plantation fibers, and technology which consumes much less energy. Considerable R&D effort is being employed to utilize biomass as an energy source.
Sophisticated simulation programs are being utilized to improve individual processes. Advanced control systems for all the fiberline process areas are being developed and tested.
In additon to several pilot plants tests jointly set up with key customers, most of the developement activity concentrates on the higer value end of the pulp and paper processat the following Andritz facilities.
