Thickening

Fine solids separated from the liquid can be thickened in a hindered settling mode, utilizing the volume of the cylindrical section of the decanter to maximize compression. Because the thickened phase behaves as a liquid, separation discs are used to control the separation process and to ensure discharge of the solids from the centrifuge.
