Andritz was established in 1852 as a foundry and machine works in Graz, Austria by Josef Körösi.
In its over 150-year history, we have a strong tradition serving the forest industries. The first products for the Pulp & Paper industry were produced for the pumping of paper stock. We became a licensee for other suppliers of equipment to the Pulp & Paper industry. The license kept us mostly focused in East Europe.
Our own proprietary products at that time included the twin-wire press, sludge dewatering presses, yankee hoods, paper machines, etc. These products were introduced to the global market and gained recognition for performance and quality.
From this basis, we began a strategy in the mid-1980‘s to move from being a licensee to becoming a center of engineering, process knowledge, and manufacturing for our own branded products. A string of well-timed acquisitions added well-known names such as Sprout-Bauer, Kone Wood, Durametal. Hymac, Ahlstrom Machinery, Fielder, and Küsters. Step-by-step we were able to reach our vision of becoming a full-line supplier “from wood to paper.”
