The coil grinding line is used to remove surface faults emanating from the production process of hot rolled strip by repair grinding and to provide the strip surfaces with a micrographic pattern, which is the so-called finish grind.

The surface faults emanating from the rolling process are skin breaks, splinter, doublings, scratches, residual scale, scale rolled into the strip, marks, high roughness, etc. If not removed by repair grinding, such faults may cause damage, e.g. to the rolls, during further processing, which will then be transferred again to other strip surfaces.
