Andritz Automation provides a suite of on-line sensors dedicated to the pulp & paper industry. FiberVision is the only sensor to measure properties such as specific surface area, specific volume, vacuum response and fibrillation. FiberVision helps pulp operations reduce specific energy consumption, achieve higher value product, improve frequency of measurement and decrease downtime. Our on-line sensor PulpVision detects dirt, ink, shives, and stickies in a pulp flow with unparalleled speed and precision, helping mills improve both product and efficiency.

Advanced Control

Better measurement means better control, and that's where our advanced PID replacement controller BrainWave comes in. BrainWave is a simple, reliable, and easy-to-use tool that improves the control on the most critical parts of your process by 50% or more. It helps pulp & paper mills reduce process variability, and is best on processes that have long dead times and/or long time constraints, or that have interaction with other control loops.

BrainWave outperforms PID because of its two main components: an adaptive model and a predictive controller. The adaptive model builds its own live models during normal plant operations, a powerful feature not offered by traditional Model Predictive Control systems. In addition, the patented Laguerre methodology of BrainWave builds high fidelity models in real time without disrupting operations. These models adapt as the dynamics inside your operation change due to weather, wear, and other factors. BrainWave’s predictive controller accurately forecasts process responses and accounts for multiple objectives. It predicts and prevents disturbances before a process is pushed off target (PID, by comparison, must wait for the error to occur, then react).

Because it runs on a Windows PC and can be added to any Rockwell control system by using RSLinx OPC communications, BrainWave easily integrates with existing control systems. In addition, BrainWave’s patented Laguerre technology means an average implementation time of less than two weeks, saving tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars compared to traditional methods. And, best of all, BrainWave can be deployed and maintained by existing plant personnel.
