Contract awarded by Iberdrola, the most important hydro utility in Spain, for the supply of Kaplan turbines for two power stations. Iberdrola has awarded a contract for two power stations to VA TECH HYDRO in Spain, following the long term collaboration of this utility with our company in Madrid.
Iberdrola is one of the global key accounts of the VA TECH group and the leading hydropower utility in Spain (and third in Europe). Their 8,000 MW installed power (more than 200 stations and 400 units) represent 50% of the total installed hydropower in Spain and 10% of the total in the European Union. VA TECH HYDRO in Spain collaborated with Iberdrola in many other important projects in the past.
These two power stations are located near each other, in a hydraulic system called Aqueduct Tajo-Segura. This important system takes the water from the Tajo River, in central Spain, and delivers it into the Segura river, 400 km away, to be used for agricultural purposes and drinking water supply in the dry southeast region of Spain. The order covers the complete electromechanical supply of these plants, including:
- ·2 Kaplan turbines with a runner diameter of 1.950 mm
- ·2 generators
- ·2 butterfly valves ND 2500
Following VA TECH HYDRO´s ´Water to Wire` concept, the supply includes the complete electrical package, including cabinets for protection, medium voltage and auxiliary services, DC batteries, lighting, etc. The turbine design is identical for both plants. Thanks to the vast selection of existing designs within VA TECH HYDRO`s Compact range, we have taken advantage of the available detail engineering already developed for a similar plant. For these reasons, we could offer a very short delivery time as an additional benefit for our client.
