VA TECH HYDRO could achieve the first sales success in Thailand with Compact turbines. In December 2002, the contract with the Thai company ST POWER ENGINEERING CORPORATION LIMITED for the delivery of two compact Francis turbines, including synchronous generators, inlet valves and turbine control was signed. The scope of supply for VA TECH HYDRO will be incorporated in a general drinking water supply project for the province Chantaburi (approx. 200km southeast of Bangkok), which consists of a dam, head water channel, surge tank, steel penstock, the power house with adjacent tail water channel and reservoir. The client and operator of the water power plant is a department of the Thai Ministry of Energy, the Department of Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), based in Bangkok. The commissioning is planned early in the year 2004.
