The contract of Las Vacas III in Guatemala was awarded to VA TECH ESCHER WYSS Ravensburg in August 2001 for the complete delivery of a Water to Wire package for one vertical shaft, 6-jet Pelton turbine including oil pressure unit, ball valve, synchronous generator, control, unit protection, synchronising, measuring and switchgear panels.
The turbine for Las Vacas III will work in parallel with two other units (Las Vacas I and II), which are located in the same power house. The penstock for Las Vacas III will have a bifurcation from the main penstock of Las Vacas II. The specificity of this project is, that the turbine will be operated with heavily polluted water (city sewage). Therefore, special design features for the Pelton turbine has to be considered.
The engineering and purchasing process has started. According to the envisaged time schedule, the main scope of supply will have a delivery period ex works of
12 months.
