With this contract VA TECH HYDRO is continuing its success story of the horizontal Compact Pelton turbines with three jets. VA TECH HYDRO is the only supplier of horizontal 3-jet Pelton units. Compared to a 2-jet arrangement, the major advantage is the achievement of a higher turbine speed. Therefore, both turbine and generator are smaller and less costly.

Moreover, better part-load efficiencies are obtained. The contract for Matanzas was awarded in 1998. However, as financing was a long-lasting project, manufacturing was released as late as in January 2001. The project equipment has already been shipped to the site and installation has started early in 2002. The unit is the 6th order from Guatemala within only 8 years, proving our outstanding market share in this Central American country.
