Ferroatlantica has awarded to VA TECH HYDRO in Spain a contract for the supply of a 11 MW Francis turbine for his O Novo Pindo resort. The contract follows a preliminary project jointly carried out by VA TECH HYDRO in Spain and Elecnor, based on the Ferroatlantica idea of installing a 11 MW Francis turbine, using the building of the old Pindo power plant, stopped a lot of years ago. The new Francis turbine takes the flow from the Santa Eugenia penstock, a near plant, also property of Ferroatlantica and equipped with two 50 MW Francis turbine, supplied by Sulzer Spain in 1985. Ferroatlantica, the customer, is a company dedicated to the ferrous alloy supply and owner of an important number of hydraulic resorts in Galicia and the Pyrennee mountains, which produce energy for the ovens of its ferrous alloys factories. The VA TECH HYDRO partner in this project, Elecnor, is an electrical supplier, with whom VA TECH HYDRO holds a close relationship long time ago as partner and as supplier in Spanish projects, mainly with Iberdrola, and international business. The scope of supply includes a 11 MW Francis turbine, a synchronous generator, a ND 1250 butterfly, valve, a digital speed governor, a 70 m long penstock, the erection and the commissioning.
