The Fine Screening Technology

Andritz launched the fine screening concept towards the end of the Seventies and has since been setting the standard in over 50 countries. It has been a pioneer in the field with the self-cleaning AQUA-GUARD® continuous belt screen series. AQUA-GUARD® screens are leaders everywhere in the world - more than 5 000 reference installations prove this.

AQUA-GUARD® screens can be quickly installed into any type of channel, including existing ones, and are easy to maintain due to their compact, robust design. Optimized operation and separation efficiency secure high throughput also for pollution-laden waters.

Principle of Operation

Intermittent Operation as an Additional Asset:
Intermittent operation of the AQUA-GUARD® Fine Screen minimizes wear and optimizes the screening efficiency in relation to the filter area.
The material piles up, thus blinding the screen and increasing the effectiveness and the fineness of filtration.
Large quantities of screening material form layers, which can be more easily discharged.
This is why Andritz recommends intermittent operation for AQUA-GUARD® Fine Screens:
Probes measure the pressure loss (DH = difference between the upstream and downstream water levels) continuously, for automatic control of intermittent filter operation.

Applications

Municipal

  • Intake channels
  • Screening at inlet of sewage treatment plants
  • Coarse screening ahead of sludge treatment
  • Coarse screening ahead of biofilters

Chemical industry, paper and board, and other industries

  • Water intake (on rivers, lakes, etc.)
  • Coarse screening at pump inlet

Industrial process water

  • Waste water
  • Food industry
  • Slaughter houses

Features

Mechanical

  • Only one motor for driving the filter elements and the cleaning brush
  • Robust design
  • Simplicity
  • No bearings in contact with the medium
  • Synthetic filter elements
  • Corrosion-resistant finish

Process

  • Continuous separation without deterioration of the screenings
  • Self-cleaning filter elements
  • Double filtration surface
  • Large flow rate
  • Low pressure loss (?H)
  • Suits numerous applications
  • Can be adapted to existing channels
  • Capable of handling various coarse screening applications
