Automation Print Version

NEPTUN is an integrated solution for hydro power automation and allows the customer to make more of his hydro assets. The most striking features of the system are its simplicity and its level of integration of IT-services.

NEPTUN stands for

  • Simplicity in the configuration of the automation system
  • Less engineering requirements
  • More detailed information of the hydro plant
  • Higher integration of IT-services
  • Fewer spare parts, and
  • Easy step-by-step expansion of the system in the future

Neptun supports our customers by simplifying the operation and maintenance of hydro equipment whilst simultaneously increasing the efficiency and flexibility of hydropower utility. The highly developed automation technology aims to increase the annual power output and to provide a reduction of both capital and operation expenditure.

The annual power output is increased by replacing mechanical turbine governors with digital ones, by the use of integrated joint controls and by reducing the excitation energy consumption. Depending on the current situation the annual power output can be increased by 5% to 10%.

The lower capital expenditure is based on the reduction of signal exchange via conventional peripheral boards and the reduced need for cabling and engineering. Signal communication makes use of international standards as the backbone of the system, giving a reduction between 10% and 15%.

Powerful remote functions for diagnosis and maintenance reduce the operational expenditure. By using the same hardware for all subsystems the spares can be reduced to a minimum and a 10% to 15% reduction of operation expenditure can be expected.
