Job Summary / Introduction

We are currently seeking an Electrical Power Systems Engineer for our Richmond, BC office. In this position you will be working on a wide variety of electrical power systems projects for our customers including generator interconnections, protection systems upgrade, harmonics mitigation, and designs of substation and power distribution systems. With each project, you will be responsible for solving problems throughout the design process from the conception of the design through to commissioning, while establishing effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Detailed Job Description

Responsibilities may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Participate in the planning, design, and commissioning of medium voltage and high voltage electrical power systems
  • Perform protection and control systems design and settings
  • Perform engineering studies and provide solutions to problems of varying complexities using simulation software such as SKM Power*Tools, ETAP or EasyPower
  • Articulate design concepts to internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and evaluate tender and construction packages, including drawings, equipment and construction/installation specifications, and other supporting documentation

Candidate's Profile

When selecting candidates, we look for the following:

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience as an engineering consultant
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • Registered with APEGBC
  • Practical Canadian or US industrial design experience involving medium and high voltage equipment
  • Experience with power system studies (short circuit, load flow, coordination, arc flash) using SKM, ETAP or EasyPower software
  • Experience and knowledge in any of the following areas an asset: protection and controls, rectifiers and harmonic filters, generator interconnections, electrical equipment manufacturing and maintenance, capital and engineering estimates, business development, and/or industrial process
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory codes and standards, including CSA, NEC and IEEE
  • Resourceful, self-managed, and goal driven but still able to work effectively in a team
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication, and technical writing skills
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international sites; valid driver's license and passport required
