Extensive product portfolio in the renewable energy sector

ANDRITZ supports its customers in their efforts to protect the environment by developing and supplying technologies that maximize energy generation from renewable resources, such as hydropower and biomass.

The ANDRITZ GROUP generates 45% of its sales from supplying plants and process technologies for generating energy from renewable resources and waste products. Among the most important products in this field are electromechanical equipment for hydroelectric power plants and plants for generating energy from biomass (power boilers and recovery boilers for the pulp and paper industry, systems for drying and pelleting of biomass).

These energy sources are becoming more and more important in efforts to lower dependence on fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Renewable energy sources account for approximately one fifth of global power production, almost 90% of which comes from hydropower. This makes hydropower the most important renewable energy source by far (Source: IHA/IEA).

Production of 2nd generation liquid and solid fuels

The basic feedstock for 1st generation biofuels (sugars, starches, vegetable oil, and animal fats) can divert food from the human food chain, leading to food shortages and rising prices. ANDRITZ supports production of 2nd generation biofuels only, from non-food crops or inedible waste products. This feedstock is abundant and diverse, and in many cases creates a significant disposal problem today.
