Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has signed a contract with VA TECH HYDRO for the renovation, modernization and uprating of six units at the Sabarigiri power station. The project will be led by VA TECH HYDRO in India with support from VA TECH HYDRO Vienna.

The Sabarigiri project originally commissioned in 1968 is located on the Pamba & Kakki rivers in the Moozhiyar Dense Forest 65 km east of Pathanamthitta city in the Kerala State of India.
The range of supply comprises of design, engineering, installation, supervision, training and commissioning of new turbine runners, new parts for refurbishing the main inlet valve, new digital governors incl. controls as well as for the rehabilitation of the six generators, a new 11kV MV switchgear, a new 25 MVA transformer, new control and monitoring systems including synchronisation, excitation and protection, the renewal of equipment for the 220 kV switchyard incl. circuit breakers and disconnectors, new battery chargers & batteries, DC distribution and one emergency Diesel set.
The contract commencement date was January 27, 2003. The entire project is due to finish at the beginning of 2007.
