ANDRITZ HYDRO is a global supplier of turnkey electromechanical equipment and services ("Water to Wire") for hydropower plants with a leading position in the growing market of plant refurbishment
ANDRITZ HYDRO in Linz has its roots in the VOEST works which were founded after the Second World War during the Austrian reconstruction period. During that time the company was involved in many Austrian Hydro Projects with major components supplies, which had to secure the Austrian electricity generation.
In 1970 VOEST-ALPINE took over the licence from the US based Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton company in Philadelphia. Since that time the Center of Competence for research and development of Kaplan, Bulb- and Pitturbines as well as for medium range Francisturbines was established. In 1991 the foundation of Hydro Vevey in Switzerland and in 1992 that of Bouvier Hydro in France was realized. In 1994 the Von Roll cooperation and in 1996 the VAMEC joint venture in Brazil was established. Today in Linz are the Centers of Competence for Large Hydro, Service & Rehab as well as Penstocks, Hydraulic steel structures & Gates.
A large Hydraulic Laboratory for Research and Development of turbines and hydraulics is also located here.
