HydroCARE ™ (Computer Aided Rehabilitation Evaluation) is a software package to help establish a budgetary proposal together with the client for turbine and generator upgrades. With only a few main data of the existing plant a layout of the turbine and the generator is done according to the latest state of the art.
The costs of the components to be upgraded and the annual energy production of the upgraded plant are calculated by HydroCARE ™ automatically. In doing so the geometry of the existing generator and turbine components is taken into account, which might result in the reduction of the hydraulic efficiency for certain components as compared with new turbine components. These data are the basis for an economic feasibility analysis with the following results: internal rate of return, capital value and payback period.
The main advantage of HydroCARE ™ lies in the fact that a comparison of several upgrading variants can be done during only one meeting with the client. Hence it is possible to discard unfeasible variants at a very early stage of the project and both the client and ANDRITZ HYDRO can concentrate on the promising upgrading variants, which were jointly developed. This procedure leads to a trustful relationship between the client and ANDRITZ HYDRO and the probability for a successful contract for both parties is increased.
