For power plants with low heads bulb type generating units are the optimal solution. A straight water passage instead of usual spiral case and the draft tube ellbow of a Kaplan turbine results in better utilisation of the primary energy and reduced power house dimensions. Bulb type power plants are highly efficient, taking advantage of natural conditions they can be perfectly integrated into the landscape.
As of today ANDRITZ HYDRO has totally 153 Bulb generators in 54 power plants all over the world in operation with a total installed capacity of about 3,700 MVA. Having started the supply of Bulb type generators from 1967 onwards (2 x 7 MVA in Austria) we are proud to have today a world market share of more than 50 %. Bulb type generators of 55 MVA max. output (Ybbs Persenbeug unit 7 in Austria) or with a max. stator diameter of 9.0 m (Da Yuan Du power plant in China) are benchmarks in the field of Bulb type generator manufacturing worldwide.
