Hydraulic Laboratories

Test rigs

  • ANDRITZ HYDRO is fully aware of the high importance of model testing, and therefore continuously makes improvements to the test rigs required for this purpose. For all turbine types the adequate test rigs are available for model testing.

The test equipment is in line with the latest engineering standards and meets all requirements of a modern test rig

  • All the conditions specified in the relevant IEC code for model acceptance tests are met
  • Measurements can be made under all operating conditions with reasonably large turbine models
  • Modern instrumentation ensures a high degree of accuracy. Data acquisition and processing are carried out automatically on every test rig
  • The complete instrumentation of each test rig can be calibrated at any time in order to check the accuracy of the delivered data by each instrument

Apart from model testing to determine the hydraulic characteristics such as efficiency, output and cavitation these test rigs can also be used to carry out other tests on model turbines.

  • Optimal dimensioning of all main components such as guide vane and runner blades by measuring the hydraulic torque
  • Analysis of the operational behaviour of a turbine by measurement of pressure pulsations.
  • Measurement of axial thrust, radial thrust is also among the standard testing program

Laser-Doppler-Anemometer

As a speciality ANDRITZ HYDRO also has Laser-Doppler-Anemometry (LDV) at their disposal. This system is being used for highly accurate, contact-free measurements of flow fields.

Measuring machine

For determination of the exact geometry of the final design achieved in a model test we do have a high-precision computerized measuring machines. As an example the geometry is defined then by some 1000 measuring points. This precision instrument ensures that the geometry of the model can be accurately reproduced in the full-scale installation.
