ANDRITZ pumps for water transport

ANDRITZ centrifugal pumps are used for water transport in many different ways, e.g. as split case pumps for water supply, vertical volute pumps for large scale irrigation, or as dewatering pumps within the mining industry

Water transport is essential not only for water supply and irrigation, but also in many other industries and applications. Large sea water intake pumps, for instance, transport huge amounts of water to a desalination plant. The power plant which provides the energy to run the plant is equipped with cooling water pumps. Split case pumps, high-pressure pumps, and single-stage pumps are used to supply water to the population and to industry. Deep well pumps (submersible pump with submersible motor) lift water from thousands of wells all over the world. Finally, screw and sewage pumps convey waste water or sludge to and within a waste water treatment plant. Sometimes, however, it is essential to get rid of water, in case of flood control or in mining shafts for example. In short, ANDRITZ pumps provide valuable solutions for all these applications.

Water supply project in China

Double suction split case pumps (flow rate 100-36,000 m³/h) manufactured by ANDRITZ are operating successfully in pumping stations throughout the world, also in numerous water supply projects in China. Twelve split case pumps from ANDRITZ provide the water supply to Guangzhou, for example, and guarantee the increasing water supply needs of this constantly expanding metropolis. The pumping station conveys around 45 m³ of water per second inland over a distance of approximately 40 km. There it is distributed by other pumping stations. The twelve ANDRITZ pumps (ten in operation and two as stand-by) are designed for a flow rate of 14,600-18,400 m³/h at heads of 35-42 m and an efficiency of up to 91%.

With ANDRITZ cooling water pumps, changes in delivery rate and head can be accommodated promptly during operation by means of speed control or with a hydraulic impeller blade adjusting device. The ANDRITZ hydraulic impeller blade adjusting device is a mechanism that is easy to maintain and also guarantees reliable operations. A servo-cylinder that can be fed pressurized oil from both sides is used to rotate the impeller blades via sliding blocks and adjustable cranks. ANDRITZ has drawn on its experience in turbine manufacturing and transposed the advantages of hydraulic impeller blade adjustment to cooling water pumps. The evidence shows that a hydraulic adjusting device is a clear advantage if there are substantial changes in delivery rate, while a frequency inverter has its strength in applications with large fluctuations in head. In either case, it is wise to analyze both variants over the approximately 40-year lifetime of a power station.

Dewatering pump for the mining industry

One of the most important requirements for trouble-free extraction operations is pumping the accumulated mine water out of the working area. Mine operators all over the world rely on single suction and double suction submersible motor pumps from ANDRITZ to carry out this important task. Dewatering with completely floodable submersible motor pumps provides the most economical and maintenance-free solution. No underground pumping station is required, for example, and the heat of the motor is taken away by the water pumped to surface (less cooling required). So far, ANDRITZ manufactures the largest submersible dewatering pumps in the world.
