The bale finishing system is controlled by a local PLC (programmable logic controller) automation system called BaleMatic, specially developed by Andritz.
The electrical control of the system is performed by the full-automatic PLC-system for high reliability and almost maintenance free operation. Local control desks, touch screens and indicators are of course also integrated in the PLC-system. The application software for this PLC-system is specially designed for each individual baling line. Highly sophisticated programming techniques are used in order to reach optimum results for time critical machine functions as well as safe and comfortable operation of the machine equipment. Production and system information are transmitted to the millwide DCS-system via an interface. The Andritz BaleMatic is based on field bus technology.
Andritz uses a tool called "soft commissioning", which means commissioning of all functions of each machine based on a real time-simulation program. As a result, the PLC software comes to the mill fully commissioned. All equipment is pre-tested (function-test) in the workshop at Andritz before shipment.
In the control system a register structure is assigned to every conveyor for the bale numbers. If the bales are moved from one conveyor to another or from one PLC to another the bale numbers are handed-over additional to the control commands accordingly. You can always assign a process value to a bale number. The administration and communication of the data to the database is executed by the PC-Interface program.
Andritz uses this tool also to support the operator training for displaying the variations of movement patterns.
Optimization of production: This tool can be used to find production bottlenecks of existing lines when rebuilds are planned and helps to implement the new equipment. New plants can be simulated and optimized in terms of logistic and production during the engineering phase.
