Flash Drying

What is Flash Drying?

The main principle of the technology is, that the pulp suspension is firstly dewatered by means of a Twin Wire Press to a dryness of up to approx. 50%. The pulp is then fluffed into small pieces and then dropped into the Dryer in which it is pneumatically transported by hot air while it is being dried. The Flash Dryer has two drying stages. Due to the recirculation of the drying air a low energy consumption is achieved. In order to minimize the particulate emission, a combination of high efficiency cyclones and secondary scrubber is used. The last step is the pressing of pulp bales of up to 250 kg in a Slab Press and finishing of these bales.

Andritz delivers single equipment for Flash Drying plants, as well as complete Flash Drying plants.

For market pulp...

... of mechanical pulp (TMP, CTMP, BCTMP, APMP) and secondary fibre.
Flash drying is the main process, even for high capacity drying plants. The reason is that a pulp web of mechanical pulp has not enough strength which is required for the operation of a sheet drying plant.

For chemical pulp....

....the flash drying system is mainly used in case of integrated pulp and paper mills where excess pulp is dried and sold as market pulp. In general the investment costs for such low capacity drying plants are in favor of flash drying plants.
