Material selection for refiner plates and wear parts requires expert application engineering, as does choosing the proper plate design. Your Durametal application specialist evaluates all of the operating parameters that should determine the right alloy for the job.
Important considerations can be:
- Impact strength
- Corrosion resistance
- Cavitation resistance
- Abrasion resistance
A wide variety of alloys and heat treatments are available to meet your specific requirements. These alloys fall into four general categories:
- Ni-Hard
- High-chromium white Irons (and heat treated versions)
- 400 Series stainless steels (heat treated)
- 17-4 Precipitation hardened Stainless Steel.
The wear resistance of High-Chromium White Irons can be improved for some applications through heat treatment. However, some high-chrome alloys can become too brittle and lose much of their needed corrosion/cavitation resistance from heat treatment. We have developed optimum alloys and heat treatments for these alloys to insure that properties are maximized rather than compromised.
