Hydropower

Hydropower plants use the gravitational or kinetic force of stored or flowing water to convert the energy into electricity. Hydropower is the most widely used form of renewable energy.

Automation, hydropower

In addition to primary technology, secondary technology is a key competence for a leading supplier of electromechanical products and services for hydropower stations.

Compact hydro

The ANDRITZ HYDRO Compact Hydro Division is the world leader in products and services for small and medium-sized hydroelectric power plants up to a unit output of 10 MW for axial and Kaplan turbines and an output of 30 MW for Francis and Pelton turbines.

Electrical power systems

Electrical power systems provide turnkey solutions for hydropower plants, including engineering, design, and supply of electrical and balance-of-plant equipment that allows turbine and generator to operate efficiently.

Gates

ANDRITZ HYDRO supplies any type of high-pressure gates, such as fixed wheel gates, sliding gates, radial gates, and caterpillar gates, as well as gates for ship locks, such as miter gates or sector gates.

Hydrodynamic screws

Hydrodynamic screws generate energy from water resources by taking advantage of natural water fall (up to 10 m). With hydrodynamic screws, even minimum hydrodynamic potentials at powers starting from 1 kW can be exploited economically.

Hydromatrix

Hydromatrix is a new innovative concept of hydraulic energy generation, combining the advantages of proven technology and low cost installation, which is easily integrated into existing dam structures or weirs.

Large new installations

The ANDRITZ HYDRO “Large Hydro” Division is a global supplier of turnkey electromechanical equipment and services for the installation of large new hydropower plants (“water to wire”) and components, including installation beyond the compact hydro range.

Modernization & renewal

About 50% of the primary and secondary technologies installed in hydropower plants all over the world are older than 30 years. The market for modernizations, rehabilitation and capacity increases of installed hydropower equipment is mainly concentrated in Europe and North America.

Monitoring and diagnosis

Online monitoring and diagnosis systems detect thermal, mechanical, dielectrical, and magnetic problems in hydropower and thermal power generating units at an early stage.

Penstocks

ANDRITZ HYDRO designs, manufactures, and installs pressure conduits (penstocks, pipe bridges, or steel tunnel linings), bi- and trifurcations as well as complete manifold systems.

Penstocks and gates

ANDRITZ HYDRO manufactures, supplies, and installs state-of-the-art hydraulic steel structures, as well as penstocks and manifolds.

Small hydro

The ANDRITZ HYDRO Compact Hydro Division is the world leader in products and services for small and medium-sized hydroelectric power plants up to a unit output of 10 MW for axial and Kaplan turbines and an output of 30 MW for Francis and Pelton turbines.

Small pump turbines

ANDRITZ single-stage and multi-stage centrifugal pumps are used as mini-turbines, e.g. as recovery turbines in pulp and paper mills, in small hydropower plants, and to supply energy to mountain refuges and forest lodges

Tidal current

Energy generation based on tidal current is an important area of innovation for ANDRITZ HYDRO.

Turbines

By using a generator, hydro turbines convert the kinetic power of water into electrical energy.

Valves

Valves for hydraulic power projects are installed for safety, maintenance, and shut-off, as well as for flow and pressure regulation.
