Hydro turbines

By using a generator, hydro turbines convert the kinetic power of water into electrical energy.

ANDRITZ HYDRO provides different types of turbines, based on the specific requirements of the hydropower plant.

Pelton turbines

  • High head applications up to 1,800 m
  • Output up to 420 MW per unit

Francis turbines

  • Net head range up to 700 m
  • Output up to 800 MW per unit

Kaplan turbines

  • Low head applications from 10 m to 80 m
  • Output up to 200 MW per unit

Bulb turbines

  • Very low head applications from 0.5 m to 30 m
  • Output up to 76 MW per unit

Hydromatrix

  • Low head applications from 3 m to 19 m
  • Factory-assembled “grid” of modules containing small propeller turbine-generator units
  • Can be installed at existing dam and gate structures as well as in greenfield locations

Pump turbines

  • Amalgamation of Francis turbines and pumps with two operation modes combined in one machine

Tidal current turbines

  • Ocean tidal stream device generating power from water speeds
  • Operating depth 40 m to 100 m
  • Output up to 1 MW
