Gouda paddle dryer
The machine has a heated trough containing rotating, heated paddle shafts. The specially shaped paddles are not for transport purposes, but are designed for maximum heat transfer. This results in excellent control of the product temperature and ensures uniform product quality. On the outlet side, the product leaves the machine over an adjustable overflow. The ANDRITZ Gouda paddle dryer offers once-through drying technology that avoids back-mixing, which makes the machine very suitable for sludge drying. The long sludge retention time combined with the average sludge temperature of 100 ºC makes it possible to pasteurize and ensure hygienic treatment of the sludge – any sludge. Any desired residual moisture level can be selected for the end product. This makes the machine suitable for partial drying to 35-40% dry solids, as is required prior to sludge incineration.

The ANDRITZ Gouda drum dryer with its continuous, indirect drying method allows short heat retention times while evaporating all the liquid within a single rotation of the drum. Not only does it virtually eliminates the risk of damaging the product, it also enables the product to retain its unique properties, such as taste, smell, texture, and so on.
Fluid bed drying system FDS
The fluid bed drying system with direct feeding converts dewatered sludge into almost dust-free granules with > 90% DS. The thermal heat for evaporation of the water is transferred indirectly by a heat exchanger immersed in the fluid bed. The fluid bed dryer is integrated into an inert gas loop system.
The fluid bed drying system (FDS) is designed for drying of mechanically dewatered sludge in the fluid bed dryer filled with dried granules. The granules are suspended in a gas stream passing through the product layer.
The DDC can be designed as dryer only, cooler only, or as a combination of dryer and cooler. Heat and mass transfer between the fluidization gas and the product is entirely convective. The design is very compact, and the materials of construction can range from carbon steel to high-alloy steel.
The DDC fluid bed can be modified with several equipment combinations for intake and exhaust air treatment, such as air filters, steam-heated air heaters, combustion chambers, air conditioning units, as well as cyclones, scrubbers, bag filters, and the like.
If the particle size distribution of the product is narrow enough, the DDC-type fluid bed can often replace a VDC-type due to its specially developed fluidizing gas distribution plates.
