ANDRITZ to supply High Energy Recovery Boiler for Holmen’s Iggesund mill, Sweden

International technology Group ANDRITZ has been awarded an order by Holmen AB’s subsidiary Iggesund Paperboard to supply a 2,400 t/d High Energy Recovery Boiler (HERB) to the Iggesund mill in Sweden.

In terms of its power-to-heat ratio, the new boiler will be the most efficient recovery boiler in the world. The start-up of the boiler will be in the second quarter of 2012. This is the fourth delivery of the modern HERB boiler design to Sweden.

The new boiler will increase Iggesund’s electricity production from 210 to 520 GWh/a. The investment is part of an energy efficiency program to make the Iggesund mill energy self-sufficient. The investment will also provide the conditions for the mill to operate without using any fossil fuels.

The operating values for the new boiler will be a design pressure of 110 bar and temperature of 515 ºC. The boiler will be equipped with a chloride and potassium removal system. Energy loss from flue gases will be minimized by flue gas condensers and a flue gas scrubber. ANDRITZ’s scope of supply will also include equipment for odorous gas handling and combustion in the boiler to minimize odors in the atmosphere.

ANDRITZ PULP & PAPER’s delivery also includes process and building instrumentation and electrification for the boiler. The scope includes process control systems for the boiler island (including the turbine and safety systems). Included in this package are ANDRITZ’s own dynamic process simulator and its advanced process control solutions.
