Andritz VA TECH HYDRO receives major order in Cameroon

ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO has been awarded by the electrical utility company AES SONEL of Cameroon to refurbish the Edéa I and Songloulou hydropower plants. The contract value totals more than 40 MEUR.

At Edéa I, ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO will replace three turbine-generator sets including their mechanical and electrical auxiliaries, unit transformers, electrical balance of plant, the intakes, draft tubes and cranes as well as automation and control systems. Units 1 to 3 at Edéa 1 were delivered by ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO between 1949 and 1955 and will each be upgraded from 35.3 MW to 49.2 MW. The refurbishment works are scheduled to be completed by 2011.

At Songloulou hydropower plant, ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO successfully performed major rehabilitation work during the last seven years and has now received a further order for renovation of four penstocks.

The hydropower sector provides almost 90% of the total power production in Cameroon. Songloulou (384MW) and Edéa (263MW) are the largest hydropower plants in Cameroon.
