Andritz VA TECH HYDRO receives order for hydropower plant renovation from Indonesia

ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO received an order from PT International Nickel Indonesia Tbk (PT Inco) for supply, installation and commissioning of two new generators (85 MVA each) as well as the protection/excitation systems and balance of plant for the LARONA hydro power station located in Sulawesi, Indonesia. The value of the order is approx. 26 million US dollars.

The LARONA hydro power station (built in 1978), the BALAMBANO hydro power station (built in 1995) and the new KAREBBE hydro power station supply the energy required by PT Inco for ore processing and nickel matte production. Already in 2005 ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO received an order for delivery of turbine-generator sets and penstocks for the hydro power plant KAREBBE.

Installation and commissioning of the two machines for LARONA represent a great challenge as the work has to be performed during the very short shut-down of the melting furnaces at PT Inco’s production facilities. The first unit is to be supplied by the end of May 2009 and to go on line in November 2009; the second unit is to follow in early 2010.

This order confirms the excellent long-term cooperation between ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO and PT Inco as well as ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO’s good market position in the field of new plants and refurbishment of existing hydropower plants in Indonesia.
