ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO to supply first StrafloMatrix plant to ItalyANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO, a member of international technology group ANDRITZ, received an order for a StrafloMatrix plant from Italian Consorzio Canale Industriale Giulio Camuzzoni. The StrafloMatrix plant will be installed in a former shiplock on the Chievo Dam on the Adige river north of Verona, Italy.
The StrafloMatrix plant, the first of its kind in Europe outside Austria, consists of five turbine-generator units with a total capacity of 1.23 MW. The innovative integrated turbine runner-generator rotor design of the StrafloMatrix plant is unique as the turbine runner supports the generator rotor and thus both turn under flow as a single unit. The resulting smaller and therefore more economic design more economically and is hugely advantageous when space is limited. Consequently, StrafloMatrix turbines are especially suitable for hydropower development ensuring minimum interference with nature. Given their particular environmental friendliness, Matrix turbines are installed in existing dam and weir systems.
The plant will be delivered and installed jointly by VA TECH HYDRO GmbH, Austria, and its affiliate VA TECH ESCHER WYSS S.r.l., Schio, Italy. Start-up is scheduled to take place in June 2009.
StrafloMatrix and Matrix are trademarks of ANDRITZ VA TECH HYDRO.
