Inauguration Ceremony

On 20 August 2019, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held a Project Acceptance Review and Inauguration Ceremony for the upgrading of the secondary systems of the Hoa Binh hydropower plant in Hoa Binh Province, Vietnam.

Representatives of various member units of EVN, Hoa Binh Hydropower Company and the consortium ANDRITZ - Narime attended this event, which was opened with the courtesy greeting of Mr. Anton Schindele, Vice President of ANDRITZ HYDRO GmbH and Mr. Ngo Son Hai, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity.

With 1,940 MW total output, Hoa Binh is the second largest hydropower project in Vietnam and one of the largest hydropower projects in Southeast Asia This is one of the most important hydropower plants of Vietnam for energy security and contributes significantly to the social and economic development of the country.

In 2015, ANDRITZ Hydro was awarded a contract for design, equipment supply and technical services of the upgrade project “Upgrade of control, protection, signal and measurement system for eight generating units of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant”. During execution, all items of the project were properly deployed as per schedule and were safely as well as timely put into operation, so the equipment is again operating smoothly and safe for years to come. In December 2018, the hydropower plant was successfully recommissioned and is running to the utmost satisfaction of the customer.

On behalf of the project employer, in his speech, Mr. Ngo Xuan Hai is delighted to see immediate impacts of the newly upgraded systems; he has expressed his compliment and thanks to the consortium ANDRITZ - Narime on its performance, and appreciated the efforts of the project team.

The Hoa Binh automation-upgrading project is the biggest hydropower rehabilitation project executed by ANDRITZ Hydro in Vietnam.
