History of ANDRITZ Sundwig
Steps along the way …
The beginnings of ANDRITZ Sundwig go back to the year 1689, when the entrepreneur Johann Bernhard von der Becke began, to manufacture forged buckles in Sundwig, Germany. In 1864, the firm expanded by setting up an iron foundry and machine works and has continued its development to become the present day company.
ANDRITZ acquired 75% of the limited partnership interest in Sundwiger-Eisenhütte Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. in 1998.
ANDRITZ Sundwig GmbH’s product range today comprises turnkey systems for production and processing of cold-rolled strip made of stainless steel, coated metals, non-ferrous metals, and special materials.

|1930||acquires licence to manufacture multi-roll rolling mills as developed by Professor Rohn, the origin of the SUNDWIG 20-high rolling mill in 4-column design that is built today|
|1955||supplies the first annealing and pickling line|

|1976||supplies the entire equipment for a complete cold rolling mill|
|1987||supplies a high-performance slitting line for aluminum, with strip speeds up to 1,000 m/min|
|1990||start-up of the world’s largest hot-dip galvanizing line|
|1990||start-up of the world’s largest Z-high reducing mill at the inlet to an annealing and pickling line for hot-rolled strip|
|1995||supplies the world’s largest annealing and painting line, with a strip width of 2,300 mm and 3 mm thickness|
|1997||largest 20-high rolling mill in 4-column design with a strip width of 1,625 mm|
|2006/2007||supplies the top-performance cut-to-length line for 25.4 mm strip thickness and 2,130 mm strip width|
|2007||start-up of the world’s largest annealing and pickling line for cold-rolled strip, with a width of 2,100 mm and 8 mm thickness|
|2009||supplies the largest Sundwig precision leveling machine for hot-rolled plates up to 60 mm thickness and a width of 3,800 mm|
|2011||Cold mill complex including hot annealing and pickling line with integrated S6-high cold rolling mill, cold annealing and pickling line with 3 integrated S6-high cold rolling mills and skin pass mill|

Our supply program includes:

Cold rolling mills
for reducing, skin passing and finish-rolling in 20-high, S6-high (18-high), 12-high, 6-high, 4-high, and 2-high designs, and in combinations of 2-high/4-high or 4-high/S6-high design, available as one-way, reversing or tandem mill, inline and offline.
Shape control systems
for cold rolling mills and strip processing lines.
Strip processing lines
for annealing, pickling, shot blasting, metal coating, hot-dip galvanizing, plastic coating, painting, surface conditioning, tension leveling, coil preparation, coil build-up, grinding, polishing, and so on.
for cutting-to-length, slitting, side trimming, rewinding, and inspection.
Complete electrical equipment, including drive systems, process automation and level-2 systems for cold rolling mills, strip processing lines, and finishing lines. Technological control systems for cold rolling mills, such as thickness control systems (AGC), automatic flatness control systems (AFC) as well as fully automatic roll change systems for rolling mills.
Revamps and Modernization of existing production equipment
Our dedicated team of engineers, commissioning specialists and experienced field personnel with having knowledge in design and engineering and also in process optimization are the excellent partner for discussing and performing revamps and modernizations and able to act as competent counterpart for our customers on eye level.
After sales services and spare part business
We provide service solutions such as maintenance, trainings, technical expert operations, process trainings, technology support and equipment evaluations. For spare parts we run our own spare part storage for some critical items to ensure the shortest possible lead times on supply special parts.

More than 150 highly qualified technicians and engineers at ANDRITZ Sundwig sourced from several different faculties guarantee highest quality throughout the process of development, engineering, and construction of our products.
Our workshop in Hemer is responsible for assembly and testing of core equipment and combinations up to complete rolling mills. These efforts lead to frictionless installation and commissioning on our customers' construction sites. For these tasks, we have a well-versed team available with more than 50 field staff.
