Smart Woodyard Process Optimization
Reduce energy consumption, and improve process stability from wood receiving to chip cooking.
Woodyard is a dynamic environment with varying conditions and often less digitalized when it comes to operator workload and daily decision-making. Smart Woodyard Process Optimization packages fit to versatile environments with certain preconditions for adjusting the process accordingly.
In Smart Woodyard Process Optimization, the complete process area or parts are optimized together with ANDRITZ experts, configuring optimization of the process at the site. Woodyard process optimization comprises the process from wood receiving to chip cooking.
Maximize yield by debarking optimization
The purpose of the debarking process is to separate the bark from the wood with the required capacity and debarking result. Often there is space for improvement in wood loss and energy consumption. By optimizing the debarking station, it is not only about monetary savings but also about increasing the sustainability and stability of the process by less raw material usage in the woodyard and the entire mill.
Concrete benefit: improved (approx.) 0,5% of yield

Decrease energy consumption by de-icing package
In Nordic circumstances, the bark on logs must be defrosted before debarking. Typically, this is done by hot water deicing and by steam de-icing processes in modern environments. Steam de-icing reduces water consumption in the woodyard. By continuous measurements, and adjustments in the hot water, de-icing package stabilizes the process and minimizes the energy consumption.
By adjusting the temperature of the circulating hot water in the deicing station, excessive energy consumption can be prevented. Optimizing this area provides benefits in operator workload and energy efficiency.
Stabilization of drum feed process by capacity package
Drum feed process can be enhanced by stabilizing the drum filling degree and chipper infeed. The optimization provides additional data of the drum feed process and allows loaders to gain more knowledge on the status of the process and support for their operations in adjusting the drum feed.
Blockage prevention package
Blockages are unwelcome in the chipper. This package is engineered to control the chipping line before the chipper to maintain optimal feeding and prevent blockages. If a human error occurs in the chipper infeed, blockage prevention optimization aims to prevent a possible blockage. The purpose of chipper blockage prevention is to maintain steady wood flow and achieve high-quality chips.
