New England Millwright Inc.

A Long Developing Partnership for Quality US Mills

New England Millwright Inc. (NEM), founded in 1982 by Bill Rowden, is located in Barre, Vermont, and provides material handling design, construction, and maintenance services for both new and refurbished feed mills. Over the last three and a half decades, NEM has become the premier source of millwright services in the Northeast, for both family farms and global agricultural companies alike.

NEM, formerly known as WT Millwrights, began as a small locally owned company focused primarily on feed mill maintenance services. As word of their expertise spread, the business grew, expanding their territory into the six surrounding New England states, through New York and beyond. Soon NEM was building feed mills and sawmills, executing heavy rigging jobs in foundries, and supporting biomass power plants.

NEM now employs the next generation of the Rowden family and continues to provide its customers with the highest quality equipment, materials, and installation. Tyler Rowden, NEM’s current business manager, expressed his pride in being part of the family business, “We are the preferred vendor to some of the biggest feed mills in the northeast. We have been working in the industry for nearly 40 years and have a top-notch, experienced staff with a focus on safety, producing projects of all different kinds, on time and within budget.”

NEM also benefits from having a steel manufacturing shop right on site. Any required equipment modifications are tailored to meet each feed mill’s exact needs, without having to send work to a third-party vendor. On-sight manufacturing gives NEM peace of mind, knowing everything is produced to the highest possible standard, every time. “NEM adheres to the most stringent OSHA, SMI, and ISN safety standards, and all the fabricators in the NEM workshop have 20 or more years of experience, so they are some of the most knowledgeable technicians in the industry,” shares Rowden.

When ANDRITZ purchased Sprout, it opened up a lot of additional resources and opportunities for us, beyond feed milling. Our ANDRITZ sales manager introduced us to several biomass opportunities where we have been able to be a very successful millwright partner.

Tyler Rowden,
Business manager

Tyler’s dad, Bill, is the founder and lead designer and uses his extensive expertise to spec out the best equipment for each feed mill’s needs. Bill began selling Sprout equipment right from the beginning. In the 1980s, when he was performing maintenance services, it seemed he encountered a belt-driven sprout pellet mill in every facility in New England. “They were everywhere and, at that time, Sprout was also building complete feed mills, so they were the competition. Learning to work with them was a must.”

Today, NEM chooses ANDRITZ equipment because of their unmatched customer support and machine quality, and because they have locations in Ontario and Muncy, a member of the ANDRITZ service staff is never more than just a few hours away. And the fact that the products are made in the USA is also a significant contributing factor.

“When ANDRITZ purchased Sprout, it opened up a lot of additional resources and opportunities for us, beyond feed milling. Our ANDRITZ sales manager, Lloyd Bier, introduced us to several biomass opportunities where we have been able to be a very successful millwright partner.”

“Lloyd and all of the Andritz staff we have worked with are supportive and attentive. Lloyd goes the extra mile and shows up at customer installations to make sure the equipment is correctly installed and fulfills the customers’ expectations. Our customers spend a lot of money on this equipment, so we appreciate a partner who makes the customer feel like their investment is worthwhile.”

“All of these factors can impact our reputation as a premier millwright so, it makes it easy to choose ANDRITZ for the next job, knowing that they will do whatever it takes to help us and the miller be successful and achieve our goals.”
