How can we help lightweight carbon construction to gain acceptance in the automotive industry?

Lightweight fiber composites like carbon are promising candidates for large-scale production in car manufacturing. With the “iComposite 4.0” research project, the Lightweight Construction Center in Aachen, Germany, (Aachener Zentrum für Leichtbau – AZL) has made remarkable progress in terms of economic efficiency.

How cybersecurity works
How do you protect digital industrial processes?

Cyber attacks on industrial companies have become an everyday occurrence, and the damage they cause can be immense and long-lasting. ANDRITZ’s strategic partner OTORIO, based in Tel Aviv, offers a unique and state-of-the-art, comprehensive cyber security concept that can be used by ANDRITZ customers as well as other companies, regardless of the branch of industry concerned. What is the most efficient way of producing packaging paper for growth markets?

Zellstoff Pöls AG has entered a new era: Thanks to its additional production line, the Heinzel Group’s location has doubled its capacities for kraft paper grades. Once again, the technological heart of this growth strategy is an innovative paper machine from ANDRITZ.

Ecological measures enabling sediment management or fish migration, for example, have top priority at Xayaburi power station.
What does “Sustainability” mean when you are building and operating a large hydroelectric power plant?

On the Mekong River in Laos, the Xayaburi Power Company (XPCL) has commissioned a hydroelectric power plant that is generating electricity for Thailand and Laos. ANDRITZ contributed significant parts of the electromechanical equipment and accompanied this mammoth project from start to finish. XPCL project manager Michael Raeder explains how ecological, economic and social goals were reconciled with one another.

How can the exhaust gas from ships’ engines be cleaned thoroughly and cost-effectively?

In order to comply with international emission limits for sulfur and nitrogen oxides maritime vessels must either use expensive low-sulfur fuel or install exhaust gas cleaning plants so that they can continue to use heavy fuel oil with a high sulfur content.

Green storage battery

Lysefjord in southwestern Norway is spectacular: The deep blue inlet extends 42 kilometers inland, framed by rugged cliffs hundreds of meters high. At the end of the fjord, a different kind of gem is ensconced deep in the rock: the new Lysebotn II hydropower station. The Lyse Group produces highly efficient “green energy” here – with effective support from ANDRITZ.

Heap of gold ore
Digital gold

Gleaming nuggets in panning screens beside rushing mountain rivers: Modern gold mining has very little in common with such images of the Wild West. But an eye for detail is still important. In the largest gold mine in the eastern USA, ANDRITZ technology is being used to optimize many facets of this industrial process.

Changing cultures

Amongst ANDRITZ ’s customers are some of the best in their field, often- times operating legacy businesses with decades of experience and tens of thousands of employees. Yet, even these companies are adapting to new realities in an ever more connected world. Mike Carroll works in one of these companies. He is the Vice President of Innovation at Georgia-Pacific Corporation, one of the world’s leaders in producing paper and tissue for mostly giant industrial customers.

SCA's pulp mill in Östrand
Better and better

More powerful, more efficient, and more sustainable: SCA ’s pulp mill in Östrand, Sweden, has reinvented itself in a mammoth, three-year project. ANDRITZ contributed the advanced technology and extensive know-how for one of the country’s largest industrial investments.

More output

The Montrose hydroelectric power plant has been using the Metris DiOMera monitoring system from ANDRITZ since 2016. Tony Nott, Operations Director at Alterra Power, and Operations Engineer Nicholas Adams talk about their experiences and plans.

Growing with digitalization

Parts of society, the economy, and the working environment are changing fundamentally and faster than ever as a result of digitalization. Industrial and plant engineering are also undergoing rapid transformation. What is ANDRITZ’s strategy in this sector, what has it achieved so far, and what plans does the Group have for the future? Answers from President and CEO Wolfgang Leitner.

Fault-free 24/7

voestalpine Automotive Components in Dettingen produces 750,000 parts for the car industry every week. The innovative smartphone app from Schuler – a member of the ANDRITZ GROUP – provides valuable assistance here.

Efficiency 4.0

In 2017, ANDRITZ concluded two very successful pulp mill projects that were unique worldwide: Fibria‘s Três Lagoas second pulp production line was started up in Brazil, and key production technologies were supplied for the Metsä Group’s bioproduct mill in Finland.

Breaking new ground

ANDRITZ operates the world’s most modern research center for tissue in Graz. The heart of the so-called PrimeLineTIAC (Tissue Innovation and Application Center) is a tissue machine that integrates eight machine designs and the latest Internet of Things applications. The clear focus here is customer benefit.

Autonomous operation

Increasing customer demands, stiffer competition, and an environment undergoing ever more rapid change – all these are challenges that modern industrial production operations today have to overcome. Digitalization and networking of entire value chains make a decisive contribution towards companies in this environment being able to achieve their efficiency and profitability goals more successfully and more effectively. The ANDRITZ answer to this digital transformation is: Optimization of Process Performance (OPP).
