As Colombia continues to increase the share of electricity generated from wind and solar power, maintaining grid stability becomes increasingly important. The synchronous condensers will provide system inertia and voltage control, helping to keep the grid stable.
Dieter Hopf, CEO of ANDRITZ Hydropower Brazil, said: “Having installed or modernized more than 7,000 MW of hydropower capacity across Colombia, we are pleased to continue contributing to the region’s energy transition with our synchronous condensers and to help Enlaza strengthen the country’s transmission infrastructure.”
ANDRITZ will supply the complete systems: the synchronous condensers with a capacity of +50/-25 MVAr each, as well as generator circuit breakers, static frequency converters, transformers, medium-voltage switchgear, and auxiliary equipment including automation, excitation, and protection systems.
