From the Danube to the world: ANDRITZ doubles turbogenerator production in Linz

2026/08/27

ANDRITZ has celebrated the completion of the first phase of its turbogenerator manufacturing expansion in Linz with long-standing customers and partners. The generators are used worldwide in power plants, for grid stabilization, and to supply large industrial facilities and data centers with electricity. Through this investment, ANDRITZ is strengthening its Linz site, increasing production capacity, and creating new jobs.

International technology group ANDRITZ reached an important milestone in expanding its turbogenerator manufacturing facility in Linz. At an event attended by long-standing customers and partners, the company celebrated the completion of the approximately 700 m² expansion of its existing production hall.

Energy-efficient manufacturing on the Danube
In the future, particularly high-performance turbogenerators will be assembled, tested, and prepared for worldwide use in Linz. The site’s direct access to the Danube provides a significant logistical advantage: Generators weighing up to 300 metric tons can be transported efficiently by ship to customers around the world. Sustainability considerations were incorporated right from the production stage: During the expansion of the manufacturing facility, comprehensive measures were implemented to increase energy efficiency, making operations in Linz even more sustainable.

With the completion of the first phase of construction, ANDRITZ has doubled its turbogenerator production capacity, marking an important milestone in the expansion of the production site. Meanwhile, the renovation of approximately 3,000 m2 of additional production space is proceeding as scheduled and will be completed in 2028.

Major expansion project to meet the world's growing energy demand
ANDRITZ had already announced the expansion of its generator manufacturing operations in Austria at the beginning of the year. The investment in the double-digit million-euro range is driven by the global expansion of renewable energy and the resulting increase in demand for turbogenerators. These generators are important components of modern energy systems, because they can flexibly connect to the grid, compensate for frequency fluctuations, and improve the reliability of the power supply.

“Linz plays a strategic role in the continued growth of our turbogenerator business. With its direct access to the Danube, the site offers ideal conditions for the manufacturing and global transportation of our high-performance hydrogen-cooled turbogenerators. By expanding our manufacturing operations, we are creating the conditions needed to meet the growing worldwide demand for these generators while also creating new skilled jobs at our Linz site,” says Jürgen Holzer, Division Manager for Turbogenerators at ANDRITZ.

Around 80 new jobs have already been created in recent months, and ANDRITZ plans to hire approximately 70 additional employees in Linz over the coming years. The company is particularly seeking skilled professionals in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, and manufacturing and testing technology.
