Hydropower is the backbone of Bhutan’s economy and a key contributor to the country’s energy supply. Khorlochhu will be one of Bhutan's larger hydropower projects and is expected to generate approximately 2.524 terawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually. It will play an important role in the country's energy planning and economic development.
ANDRITZ's scope of supply comprises the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of four Pelton turbines, generators, auxiliary equipment, and balance of plant. The project will be executed using the company's manufacturing facilities in India, supported by its global network.
Khorlochhu Hydro Power Limited, a joint venture between Druk Green Power Corporation Limited and Tata Power Company Limited, stated: "With ANDRITZ as our technology partner, we are confident in delivering a world-class facility that supports Bhutan's green energy expansion and sustainability goals."
This order further strengthens ANDRITZ's position in Bhutan's hydropower market. The company is currently involved in several hydropower projects in the country and operates Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd, a joint venture with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited.
