The plant uses ANDRITZ’s proven hydrochloric acid regeneration technology, enabling the recovery and reuse of spent pickling acid while generating valuable iron oxide as a by-product. The closed-loop process substantially reduces waste generation and minimizes the need for fresh acid, with regenerated acid now covering approximately 99% of the pickling operations’ acid requirements. The iron oxide is sold for use in other industrial applications.
The new acid regeneration plant has a processing capacity of 6,400 liters of spent pickling acid per hour. It was installed to meet the additional regeneration requirements resulting from the introduction of a new pickling line with an annual processing capacity of 1.3 million tons.
Following start-up and performance validation, the new acid regeneration plant achieved stable operation and met all required process and environmental parameters. Together, the two ANDRITZ acid regeneration plants now serve the pickling operations at Vasind Works.
JSW Steel Coated Products Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel Limited, is India's largest producer and exporter of coated steel products. Its Vasind Works in Maharashtra produces cold-rolled, galvanized, and other value-added steel products.
