Raffaele Del Bianco

Site Manager, ANDRITZ Hydropower Italy

For nearly 25 years, Raffaele Del Bianco’s journey with ANDRITZ Hydropower has taken him from hands-on mechanical work to leading teams on complex project sites around the world.

He started his career as a mechanic in 2001, later became a supervisor in 2006, gradually took on both supervision and site management responsibilities from around 2014, and has been working as a Site Manager since 2019. Looking back, Raffaele describes this journey as one that has profoundly shaped his professional life – and his personal view of the world.

“I am proud to be part of ANDRITZ Hydropower because it means being part of a company capable of achieving ambitious goals in complex environments worldwide,” he says.

For Raffaele, ANDRITZ is a company whose projects do more than deliver technology. They create visible, lasting impact. Many of them have quite literally changed the landscape. Behind these achievements, he sees one of the organization’s greatest strengths: its people.

Each step in his career has given him a different perspective on what it takes to deliver complex projects successfully. As a mechanic, Raffaele appreciated the direct involvement with the local workforce, learning practical tips and tricks in the field and building strong relationships along the way. As a supervisor, he valued the opportunity to see how his decisions directly influenced work progress – and the satisfaction of finding solutions to difficult problems.

Today, as a Site Manager, one of the most interesting aspects of his role is having an overall view of all site activities. It means being involved in strategic decisions, coordinating different needs and priorities, and working with people at every level – from the direct workforce to managing directors.

He values the vast expertise within ANDRITZ – colleagues from different countries, branches, and functions who come together to solve difficult challenges and deliver demanding projects, often in environments where conditions are far from simple.

From a professional perspective, working in such multicultural teams has been one of the most valuable parts of his journey. Raffaele has collaborated with people at all levels, from site workers to senior directors, and has learned from each of them.

“From all of them, I have learned how to improve professionally and how to adapt to different and difficult situations,” he explains.

These experiences have shaped his approach as a Site Manager. Today, he plans with complexity in mind, anticipates challenges early, and focuses on leveraging the strengths of every person in his team. For him, successful site management means staying prepared, adaptable, and close to the people who make projects happen.

His journey has also influenced him deeply on a personal level. Working on international sites has allowed him to travel the world, live in different environments, meet people from many cultures, and experience realities that most people only hear about.

“It gave me the privilege of seeing places few have seen and experiencing things many cannot imagine,” Raffaele says. “I consider myself very lucky for this.”

Through these experiences, Raffaele has gained not only professional expertise, but also a broader understanding of people, cultures, and the world. After almost 25 years, his journey with ANDRITZ Hydropower continues to be defined by ambition, teamwork, adaptability, and the privilege of contributing to projects that leave a lasting mark.
