Lenzing, Austria, selects ANDRITZ to supply new debarking and chipping line

2026/07/15

Lenzing AG has awarded international technology group ANDRITZ an order to deliver a complete debarking and chipping line for its pulp mill in Austria.

Start-up is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

The new line will have the capacity to process 400 m³/h of logs. It will be equipped with a horizontally fed HHQ-Chipper including the advanced TurnKnife system. Combined with a frequency converter for optimum chipper revolving speed, this knife system ensures efficient use of the wood raw material, minimizes wood losses, and provides high chip quality. The hydrostatically supported debarking drum will be designed for the demanding dissolving pulp production process, where an excellent debarking degree is crucial. Efficient log washing will remove loose silica from the logs.

The delivery also includes a complete automation, electrification and instrumentation system. ANDRITZ will provide detailed engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of the line.

Dr. Rolf Yaldez, Mill Manager at Lenzing, says: “Building on our long-standing partnership with ANDRITZ, we selected this solution because debarking performance is essential for our process. With this new line, we are investing in technology that helps us make the most of our raw materials and supports consistently high-quality production.”

This order further strengthens the long-standing business relationship between the two companies. ANDRITZ delivered a complete debarking and chipping line to Lenzing in 2003, which included one of the first horizontally fed HHQ-Chippers. The current supply includes ANDRITZ’s 200th HHQ-Chipper.

The value of the order will not be disclosed. It is included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2026.
