Hyogo Pulp Industries places repeat order with ANDRITZ for pulp washing and refining

2026/07/17

Hyogo Pulp Industries, Ltd. has awarded international technology group ANDRITZ an order to supply a second DD-Washer drum displacer washer and a blowline refiner to its Tanigawa mill in Japan.

The order will support the mill’s plans to expand production capacity while advancing its sustainability goals. Start-up is scheduled for May 2028.

The value of the order will not be disclosed. It is included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for the first quarter of 2026.

The state-of-the-art ANDRITZ DD-Washer ensures maximum washing efficiency and excellent pulp quality while optimizing water usage and thereby reducing the mill’s environmental footprint. Its multi-stage design enables the mill to shut down existing washers. Furthermore, the DD-Washer allows the number of washing stages to be adjusted during operation to match production requirements.

The ANDRITZ blowline refiner processes high-kappa pulp and refines shives remaining in the pulp stream. It also increases pulp yield by significantly reducing the rejects returned from the screen room.

Naoki Ikawa, Representative Executive Director of Hyogo Pulp Industries, says: “We have been very satisfied with the performance of the ANDRITZ DD-Washer, which was started up in 2024, and have therefore decided to install a second DD-Washer due to its high production capacity and excellent environmental performance. This investment will enable us to shut down existing washers that have been bottlenecks in our process. Together with the new ANDRITZ blowline refiner, these technologies will make a significant contribution to achieving our sustainability goals.

Since 2025, Hyogo Pulp Industries has been operating ANDRITZ evaporation and methanol liquefaction plants, enabling Japan’s first biomethanol production from a pulp mill. This milestone advances biorefinery initiatives and supports the transition toward a circular economy.

Hyogo Pulp Industries is a leading Japanese producer of unbleached kraft pulp. In addition, the company supplies green electricity generated from biomass and promotes the effective use of wood resources in its pulp and power generation businesses, primarily using discarded wood as raw material.
