Biomass screening and size reduction systems

ANDRITZ offers complete solutions for screening, separating, crushing, and sizing various biomass materials.

Clean biomass fuel of a consistent size

Cost-effective production of energy biomass is very much dependent on efficient handling of available biomass sources, as well as the efficiency of each process. To release the full energy potential of biomass as fuel, the material must be cleaned of impurities and of the proper size for optimum utilization.  In certain installations, the equipment must be designed for dust removal and/or ATEX-approved for fire prevention.

Complete systems or specific equipment – ANDRITZ has the solution

ANDRITZ offers complete solutions for screening out impurities, shredding oversize materials, and properly sizing biomass for energy production – including ATEX-approved equipment.  The scope of supply can vary from complete plants to individual equipment delivery. ANDRITZ is very experienced in project management, ensuring deliveries that are on-time and on-budget, and produce excellent economic results for energy producers.

Screening, crushing, and separating systems

If the biomass material comes to the plant pre-shredded, ANDRITZ offers a reliable and efficient unit with closed construction to minimize dusting which screens and shreds the biomass to a particle size suitable for the boiler, gasifier, or downstream process.  Disc screens and shredders are well-proven technologies designed for continuous operation. The design minimizes maintenance intervals and is easy to access to minimize maintenance downtime.

A magnetic separator is integrated into the system to remove ferromagnetic particles. The size of the screening and shredding station is scaled to the capacity of the line and the desired particle size.

ANDRITZ stand-alone crushers for wood waste and forest waste can accommodate very difficult and stringy materials, such as eucalyptus and acacia bark. For these applications, a different tooth arrangement is used to cut the material. The crushers are fed by a belt feeder. The crusher design features easy-to-change crushing teeth. Parts of the grating underneath the rotor can be maintained or easily changed.
