Benefits
- Improved cleanability and availability
- Optimized steam consumption
- Identification of ash lumps causing an safety risk
- Condensate identification during start-up
Fouling of recovery boiler heat transfer surfaces, such as superheaters, is inevitable during liquor burning. Sticky soot deposits can significantly reduce heat transfer efficiency and availability of the boiler. Traditionally, continuous sootblowing is required to remove these deposits and keep the recovery boiler operational. Sootblowing is typically controlled by a pre-set sequence, and shutdown inspections and process data is used to roughly estimate the extent and location of fouling.
The Smart Heat Exchanger Weight Measurement (HEWITM) system offers aprecise solution by providing a direct measurement to monitor fouling. Accumulated ash is weighed real-time and the results are used to improve sootblowing sequence by targeting areas with higher fouling tendency. The Smart Heat Exchanger Weight Measurement system assists operators in identifying the most heavily fouled areas and can also be used to track condensate removal during start-up as well.
Installation and maintenance of the system are easy, with no welding or shutdown required
