History

Dedert has supplied over 1800 installations worldwide for over 400 customers, the majority of whom have been repeat clients. We now have close to 100 employees across the world with offices in North America, Europe and Asia. Their performance, proven skill, passion and dedication has enabled us to push technology boundaries and enter new markets to better support our customers, while maintaining delivery of the most reliable and efficient systems. We aim to be at the forefront of technological development. In the last 50 years our innovations have included:

• Introduced mechanical vapor recompression to the corn wet milling industry
• Pioneered waste heat evaporation and energy integration
• Patented an oil-free atomizer for spray drying built around the permanent-magnet motor and air-bearing technology
• Screw Press with Automated CIP System
• Designed NFPA-68 compliant curved and flush explosion vent doors
• Created a state-of-the-art pilot plant with new spray drying pilot facility in 2018 at Dedert's headquarters, in Homewood, IL, USA.

Research and development

Dedert contracted a 10,000 square foot research and testing facility on-site to meet the needs of our customers.

The Dedert research facility allows us to test products on a pilot scale, and establish the correct parameters and material characteristics needed for optimal design and scale-up. We can also produce samples of the product for market research.

The pilot evaporator is designed for both falling film and forced circulation duty, fully instrumented for the acquisition of key operating parameters. Additional evaporation trials and physical property measurements can be done in the laboratory.

Dedert's 3m-diameter multi-stage pilot spray dryer is a fully modular design with the flexibility to operate as a single-stage, two-stage or three-stage dryer. It has both internal and external fluid bed units for drying, cooling, and conditioning. The state-of-the-art dryer evaporation capacity is up to 200kg/hr, depending on operating temperature. Powder agglomeration is possible with a fines return system. The dryer features both rotary and nozzle atomization, high-efficiency cyclone and dust collection. Heating systems are either indirect or direct fired with gas. Post drying, cooling screening, and classification are also available.
