Health & Safety: Committed to No Harm

At ANDRITZ, excellence begins with Health and Safety. We are committed protecting everyone we impact. In every action, we care for each other, making sure everyone gets home unharmed. This defines how we run a responsible business — in our operations, partnerships, and with our people.

In a technical environment, it is natural to focus on systems, data, and precision. We make sure people remain at the centerSafety is not only about tracking incidents; it is about protecting people. A financial result can be recovered. A human life cannot.

Our commitment

Our global Health & Safety organization defines standards, provides training, and monitors performance across all business areas. We assess risks systematically and act on early warnings before they lead to harm. Regular internal and external audits support our continuous improvement, and our management system is aligned with the principles of ISO 45001.

Everyone has the right and the responsibility to speak up when they see a risk. Safety leadership starts with trust.  We encourage open discussion, act on feedback, and value those who raise issues before they cause harm. Emotional safety and trust allow people to speak up. Leaders create this environment by example: listening before reacting, prioritizing safety over numbers, and recognizing small successes such as a risk prevented or a safe action taken. Even under pressure, we demonstrate that people come first.

We manage risk through defined processes that apply across all operations:

  • Pre-task risk assessments and permit-to-work systems for critical tasks

  • Management of change procedures for altered conditions

  • Clear stop-work authority for all employees and contractors

  • Immediate reporting and investigation of near misses and incidents

  • Corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes to avoid recurrence

For our customers, strong safety means predictability, quality, and trust. They know that every ANDRITZ project is executed protecting both lives and assets. Safety is one of our competitive advantages, and customers recognize us as a partner who brings safety leadership into every project. Through initiatives like the Safety Excellence Awards, we motivate teams, share examples of prevented risks and safe actions, and keep improving together worldwide.

Safety in action

Building an authentic safety culture takes time, consistency, and strong leadership. It also means working with customers and partners who share the same high standards of health and safety. Our results speak for themselves — safety has become one of our competitive strengths and a visible part of how we operate.

  • Integrating Health & Safety into COQ and supplier management
  • Promoting positive influence through social networks and role models
  • Leadership in Health & Safety (LiHS): empowering leaders to set the tone, influence culture, and make safety visible in every decision
  • Behavior-Based Safety (B-BS): reinforcing safe actions to build lasting habits
  • Regional Safety Coordinators: ensuring consistent standards at every project site
  • 8 Life-Saving Rules: practical guidelines that apply to all employees and contractors, reducing risks in critical activities like working at heights, lifting, or confined spaces.
  • Safety events, such as Choose Life in 2025
  • Safety Excellence Awards: recognizing sites and teams for outstanding performance
  • Rolling out a safety rating system over the next 5 years
  • Aligning subcontractors with ANDRITZ's safety standards
  • Supporting customers implement ANDRITZ's safety standards

Strong safety performance also supports our broader ESG targets. Learn more about this connection on our Sustainability pages.

Performance

We measure safety performance with clear indicators and follow up on results:

  • Incident Frequency Rate (IFR): core metric

  • Safety Observations: both positive and negative

  • Observation Quality: content, follow-up, and resolution

  • Participation Rate: what % of employees are actively engaged

  • Health Rate: including mental and physical well-being

  • Engagement rate: career lengths, etc.

Tracking data helps us identify trends, improve systems, and keep people safe. Numbers do not replace human judgment. They guide it.

Governance and integrity

Health and safety governance is part of our Group Compliance framework. Risk assessments, internal and external audits, incident investigations, and defined escalation processes ensure accountability and learning across all sites. Anonymous reporting of concerns is possible through our global the Speak Up! channel, open to employees and partners alike.

We also expect the same commitment from our business partners. Our suppliers follow the Supplier Code of Conduct  and related onboarding and audit processes that align with our safety and integrity principles.
