Improve operator safety by more than 90% with the Smart Smelt Spout Robot
Advanced Measurement Solutions for the Smelt Spout Deck
Smart Char Bed Measurement and Smart Smelt Flow Measurement
Due to the presence of molten smelt and hot & alkaline green liquor, the smelt spout deck of a recovery boiler is one of the most dangerous places to work in a modern kraft pulp mill. ANDRITZ offers automation solutions to reliably improve the safety and performance of the smelt spout deck. With ANDRITZ automation and digitalization solutions for the smelt spout deck, you can significantly increase the safety and operational efficiency of the recovery boiler.
Location of the two advanced measurement solutions: Smart Smelt Flow Measurement and Smart Char Bed Measurement
Smart Char Bed Measurement prevents smelt rushes and maintains the char bed size optimal
Preventing a smelt rush and keeping char bed in optimal size begins with proper char bed management, enabled by the Smart Char Bed Measurement. The Smart Char Bed Measurement utilizes the existing bed cameras to provide a real-time 3D model of the bed, enabling operator decision-making based on measurements rather than subjective interpretation of a camera feed.
The Smart Char Bed Measurements are placed inside the recovery boiler where they convert the camera feed into numerical data that is further used in the mill’s own DCS system to ease the work of the operators
The Smart Char Bed Measurement converts bed camera feeds into numerical data, such as bed volume and height, that can be used in the DCS to alarm operators when boiler adjustments are required. Maintaining a stable char bed prevents safety excursions and allows for maximum reduction in efficiency.
Smart Smelt Flow Measurement solutions measures the volumetric smelt flow rate and a fouling index of each spout
The Smart Smelt Flow Measurement cameras are typically above the spouts with a direct visibility to the smelt flow
Further automate the functionality of the Smart Smelt Spout Robot through the Smart Smelt Flow Measurement. Fouling rate measurement of each spout from Smart Smelt Flow Measurement acts as a input for Smart Smelt Spout Robot. The measurement results are sent to the Smelt Spout Robot‘s PLC to prioritize cleaning of the spout that has the highest urgency, or that is rapidly fouling. The sudden high smelt flow quantity from a spout can be an indicator of a smelt rush, when the system can automatically close the hood doors to protect equipment and humans in the spout deck.
The Smelt Flow Measurement has direct visibility to the smelt flow in the smelt spouts
