HIPASE integrates the specific requirements of the different fields of excitation (HIPASE-E), electrical protection (HIPASE-P), synchronization (HIPASE-S), turbine controllers (HIPASE-T) and automation of hydropower plants in a single device.
All devices are based on identical hardware and use the same engineering tool.
The HIPASE device (hardware) consists of a half size 19” housing incorporating up to 32 digital inputs and outputs as well as 12 current and 8 voltage transformer inputs. All HIPASE devices usually comprise four boards to be combined individually according to the type of application. The central processor module is the core component, also supporting different standard communication interfaces. A key characteristic of the HIPASE platform is its safety architecture.
Due to the predefined functions included in HIPASE, all devices can easily be fitted to the requested demands and plant-specific requirements. The functional scope of the new HIPASE platform consists additionally of up-to-date functions like an innovative and fully graphical color touch display, multiple open communication features, security features as well as a simple plant-specific configuration of the devices.
The HIPASE security features are supported by the hardware – every HIPASE device is equipped with a TPM chip (trusted platformmodule), which clearly identifies each device and provides unique keys for authentication.
The Excitation System of a synchronous generator makes it possible to supply the energy generated by an engine (turbine) to the power grid. As a result, high priority is assigned to the reliability and availability of excitation equipment when choosing systems.
HIPASE-E is an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) with all limiters, additional regulators and a gate control for all synchronous single-and three-phase generators used in a wide frequency range.
The HIPASE-E application board includes the field current regulator and the generation of firing pulses for the SCRs. For analogue and digital signal processing, appropriate analogue and digital interface boards are provided.
ANDRITZ Hydro provides four types of THYNE excitation systems:
- THYNE1 (for small generators with or without exciter machines, up to 25 A field
- THYNE4 (for generators with exciter machines, up to 400 A field current)
- THYNE5 (static excitation for generators with slip rings, up to 4000 A field current)
- THYNE6 (static excitation for generators with slip rings, up to 10000 A field current)
Excitation systems stand for high availability as well as efficiency, robustness, high MTBF time, and a lifetime of about 30 years or more.
The Turbine Governor is the essential part of the hydraulic power unit for efficient conversion of hydraulic energy to electric energy. It ensures a stable speed of the turbine in no-load-operation as well as island-mode and guarantees the adherence of setpoint in grid operation.
The digital turbine governor gets by with the functional requirements of the client because of a scalable and modular solution. It can be implemented as stand-alone solution or as integrated part of the existing structure. Preceding simulations and stability studies ensure stable and reliable control.
ANDRITZ Hydro offers complete oil hydraulic power unit (HPU) packages including sump tank, pumps, control and main relay valves, filters, monitoring devices, and pressure accumulators. The standard concept has a modular design with use of reliable industrial components and design pressure up to 150 bar.
Electrical protection systems have to take on the task of damage containment in the event of overloading and/or a fault in the electrical equipment (generators, transformers, auxiliary systems, busbars, outgoing lead and cable units).
HIPASE-P is a perfect solution for powerful generator and transformer protection designed for different frequencies (50 Hz, 60 Hz and 16.7 Hz).
For HIPASE-P a special application board has been developed to generate or process analogue signals for specific protection functions like:
- Rotor earth fault protection
- Stator earth fault protection by
- Signal injection method
- Shaft current protection
- SFC protection
- Temperature measurement, etc.
DRS-COMPACT2A: is applicable in medium-sized and large plants and also provides very comfortable user operation due to local key pad operation and the LCD display
DRS-LIGHT: with the smallest dimensions is used preferably in small plants (generators, transformers), with the local user interface, it provides comfortable service operation and has the same system features as the higher relay systems DRS-COMPACT2A
DRS-BB: The distributed low impedance numerical bus bar protection enables flexible application for almost all possible bus-bar layouts due to the inherent universal concept. Provides the same user comfort for local operation and configuration of the field units, and of the central unit via the user interface. As with all other DRS relays, it also provides for operation from remote control locations.
DRS-LLD: is a protective device for overhead lines and power cables. Up to 6 line ends can be covered by the scheme. Also, a transformer can be included in the protected area.
DRS-WIM: Simple access to all protection relays of the plant can be gained via the integrated trans-diagnostics function feature carried out from a higher-order remote control location. This software operates all DRS versions and all relay types supplied.
