Reject and sludge can be turned into value after proper handling.

Waste-to-value systems

Innovative technologies for sludge and reject handling, material separation and recovery, and production of renewable energy help you reduce dependency on purchased power or fossil fuels and eliminate landfilling of waste.

Thus improving your mill's profitability.

Are you wasting your waste?

Mill and industrial wastes are costly to handle, transport, and dispose of. In a pulp or paper mill, waste is particularly prevalent in the processing of recycled fibers. Plastics, textile, wood, iron, wires, inks, and other small contaminants are a common part of the incoming raw materials (recycled papers and boards) – and these materials are separated from the recoverable fibers used in papermaking. Another waste component is the sludge (residue from deinking processes, raw water, process water and biological water treatment). In pulp and virgin fiber mills, there is relatively clean biomass available in the form of bark, pins, and wood residuals.

Creating value through recycling

Waste-to-value processes enhance your mill's profitability by recycling the mill waste products. Such processes are the source of renewable energy (gas and oil) and valuable by-products, such as aluminum and bio-char. Modular system designs with scalable sizes can be adapted to the waste streams. Furthermore, ANDRITZ supplies innovative technologies, processes, and equipment for the conversion of waste into valuable fuels. These systems include equipment for sludge and reject handling, drying, pelleting, pyrolysis, and combustion – contributing towards recovering resources and closing the recycling loop.

Benefits of handling residuals with a waste-to-value system

  • Reducing deposit and energy costs
  • Fulfilling legal requirements
  • Producing substitute fuels and valuable by-products
  • Improving profitability by closing mil-internal material and energy loops
  • Achieve a higher independence degree from energy suppliers
  • Generate green electricty and reduce carbon footprint
